As you’re doing the job or when it’s complete you can determine how long it actually took to put up the wall. Let’s say it took 12 hours for the ten foot wall instead of the 10 estimated hours. Assuming there was nothing peculiar on that job you want adjust your estimating software to 1.2 hours per linear foot so you’re right on the money for the next job. Job cost software (it can be done manually, but it’s a pain and duplicates effort) along with you construction estimating software will ensure that you are profitable over the long term. Many contractors use QuickBooks for their accounting and payroll. With the proper construction estimating program you can have your budgets in QuickBooks so tracking your costs is as easy as paying your bills.
